21st Oct - Scottish ESS Club Open Show
We had decided to make a weekend of it with our good friends Bob & Gina and their two springers and spent a lovely weekend up at Moffat at the Annandale Arms. They started showing a young Beresford dog who was a bit older than Henley (they grew up together - they didn't like each other - but grew up together!! ) We have had many such weekends with Bob & Gina but for some reason hadn't had one for such a long time - so it was well overdue! Sadly we lost Henly shortly after Sam so it was a good weekend reminiscing - plently of laughs and great food!
Sunday dawned bright and the sun shone all day - it was a lovely autumn day. Our judge was Jacky Mitchell of the Peasblossom affix who made the long journey north for the day. Not a huge entry but there was a good atmosphere round the ring side and plenty of laughs to boot. Holly showed her little socks off and won the Open class which was all champions but didn't go any further - maybe she just wasn't quite Jacky's type, but pleased with the class win.
Back to the hotel after the show and sat in the glorious sunshine with a cuppa - hard to believe it was October! Curry for tea then headed back home Monday - but a wonderful weekend was had by all. Thanks Bob & Gina - we really must do it again some time soon xxxx
14th Oct - South Wales Kennel Ass Ch Show
This was one of those shows that is either very good or rubbish - and dependant on the weather very much for the decision between the two based on it's location. If it's nice weather then it is one of the prettier venues, but if it's not then it's a dismal day all round. This particlar morning it was foggy and damp and freezing - one of those cold days when you couldn't get warm. We were sat around the ring wrapped up like grannies with blankets - dogs were left in the van with their coats on - it was probably the warmest place! The sun eventually came out at about 2pm and it was then wamer outside than inside. Enough about the weather and on to the showing where our judge Diane Scott of the Lossiedoon affix awarded Holly a very creditable 2nd behind the eventual RCC winner. She moved like a dream in the good sized ring and looked better for getting that additional bit of weight off her shoulders. I had some lovely compliments about her on the day which always helps to warm your cockles on such a cold day! As Geoff had done the drive there I had to do the 3 hours driving back so arrived back in the house after leaving at 5am at 6pm.
7th October - Northern ESS Open Show
One of my favourite shows held at Ripon Racecourse which is a venue second to none and even better if the weather is good cos the outside showing near the winners enclosure is brilliant. The grounds were in glorious bloom and the sun shone all day so a beautiful setting all round. The committee worked tirelessly all day putting on a really friendly show with super food on offer ......and those cakes - just blows my diet thinking of them.
Our judge was from over the borders in the form of Catriona Brough of the Thankerton affix. Holly was in Open Bitch which she won - which was a lovely surprise. At this show, they save all the top honours to the end when our judge awarded her best dog to Ann Happs' Jorobarden Alderniti handled by Emily with Reserve Dog going to Trudy Topliss' Rianlas in The Black to Beresford. Best puppy dog also Trudys. After finally getting Holly to calm down a bit - she definitely was up for play time today! Catriona awarded Holly Best Bitch with Anne Corbetts Trimere Touch of Black the Reserve bitch and her puppy T Tough Cookie handled by Richard Bott BPB. Holly then up for the challenge for Best in Show - I was absolutely delighted when Catriona awarded us BEST IN SHOW - this was the 2nd year on the run that she has won this - I really will have to get the cup engraved now!
A fab day all round with a lovely atmosphere and another 5k and a 15k bag of food to bring home with some beautiful rossettes awarded with a lovely hand made card by our judge for all the winners
