THURSDAY 18th August
Up really early today only because we were awake so actually on the road by about 5.30am and it was still flippin’ dark!! Limerick show is held at Woodlands Hotel in Adare and has a lovely setting although the car park had obviously had equine residents before we got there – if you see what I mean!... so wellies definitely came in useful. Usual format – Geoff sorted the gazebo – I sorted out the dogs and rest of the stuff. A couple of sausage butties cooked by ‘Geoff the Chef’ al fresco and a good cuppa later we were ready take on the world.
There are two shows today – in the morning we have Limerick All Breeds Ch Show and the ESS Club of Ireland Ch Show in the afternoon. Our judge for the general Ch Show was Miss E Archibald from Ireland so we thought it might end up being a home win – and it was! Holly got a 2nd in her class but didn’t put a foot wrong a per usual and I guess and we were expecting that result although there were a few people a bit surprised by the result but hey ho, this is the circuit and anything is possible ..... a bit ‘after the Lord Mayors show’.....!!
Our judge for the ESS Club show was our own home grown Bev Nicholson. Holly really out performed herself yet again and redeemed her consistent record by winning her class again. It was starting to get really hot by that time (yes sunshine again!!) so she really did have to work quite hard in the heat. She missed out on the GS who went to a lovely bitch Gracie and she was awarded the Reserve Green Star so the day didn’t end up too bad after all. The club show does have classes for baby puppies from 4 months old do it was lovely to see a few real babies in the ring having a wonderful time and enjoying their days out – although they gave their handlers a real hard time!!!!
the dogs. Tea, TV and then bead with another day planned on Banna Beach tomorrow and then it’ll be Saturday and ....blimey nearly the end of the week – where has the time gone??
FRIDAY 19th August
A bit grey today but we thought we would brave the elements and try Banna Beach – one we haven’t tried before. The tide was in when we arrived but was on it’s way out so it did eventually give us plenty of running room (for the dogs – not me!!) and it was blowing a gale to boot.
Again the dogs had a lovely time and Jaz even tried her luck at underwater snorkelling she thought it was fun trying to dive for the shells under the waves!!
Walking back along the dunes to dry the dogs off a bit and away from the blustery wind
......then back to the cottage to pack up the car ready for last evening at Ballyfinnane. It has been a wonderful stay and I can thoroughly recommend The Old Dairy to anyone wanting a home from home for a relaxing break. Our penultimate show will be Tralee Ch Show at Castleisland which is a short hop of about 30 minutes and then the final show at Thurles on Sunday. So it’s going to be busy busy busy with a couple of the dogs really needing a bath and a bit of tidy up for Holly before trying to get everything back into the car so that it was accessible over the next 2 day – no easy feat I can tell you!
SATURDAY 20th August
Tralee Ch Show is the last of the circuit shows today at Castleisland today so as we had to leave the cottage it was up at 4.30am to ensure that everything was packed into the car and the cottage was left all spick and span with no signs of dogs having been in residence for the week.
Usual format – gazebo unpacked, erected, kettle and frying pan on for breakfast of sausage and bacon butties – this is the way to show I can tell you.
Our judge today was Mr D Miller from the US who awarded Holly the bitch Green star and also the Best of Breed. Very quickly off to the Group where Mr B. Lundgren awarded her Group 4 which was absolutely fabulous day. Full results below

Then a bit of a mad dash to pack up everything before it rained and off back to Ballyboy House for the last night in Ireland.
That evening we had a super meal in Clogheen then a relatively early night as the early start plus a couple of glasses of Guinness was starting to take it’s toll!
SUNDAY 21st August
The Black Red & Gold Cocker Club host the show for today for the gundog groups 7 and 8. It’s a fun day and didn’t start until 11am so we actually managed to have a lie in, a leisurely breakfast then off to the show at Thurles Dog Track where the show was being held.
A bit of a depleted number inattendance to day as a couple of the UK exhibitors had returned home the day previous to attend WKC which was also being judged on the same day
Our judge today was Kathy Gorman from the UK and she placed Holly 1st in her class and awarded her the Reserve Green Star. Full results below

…and that was it, all the showing over for another year but what a great time we had had. Not only had Holly excelled in the show ring being awarded one of the 2 top honours at 5 out of the 6 shows, plus 2 Group placings, it had stayed almost dry for the week and we had had a damned good laugh with those who joined us on the circuit so thanks to all who made it such an enjoyable week – hope to see you all again for more of the same next year.
Back on the road again heading for Dublin Port for the 9.15pm sailing. Arrived back in the house at 2.30am Monday morning and eventually to bed about 4.30 after having a well deserved cuppa sat out in the garden on a lovely summers night reflecting on the weeks activities. The only thing left to do was unpack the car, and sport out the washing but well worth it when you consider what a great time we had had.
It goes without saying that it wouldn’t have been half as much fun had Geoff not been there and thanks again to him for driving 1000 out of the 1050 miles we racked up over the week, lugging the heavy stuff to and from the car to the show ground and generally making us all laugh so much.
Love you loads and It was much appreciated xx
